Highfill was explaining to me how the Syrian refugees were going to impact America. After our conference ended I realized I had little to no clue about most of the things she was talking about. What were quotas? Why did they need to be regulated in Europe? This was my “ah-hah” moment as a citizen. I realized I was completely out of touch with current events around the world. I only really ever watched or heard about news happening here. I realized that I needed some good ole fashioned learning, and started researching about things that were going on around me such as the Paris shootings. I have gotten into a habit of reading about current events because I realized it interests me so much. With one already completed, I felt quantity would be best over quality and started work. The first prompt instructed me to write about a goal of mine that I had already accomplished. I found this very easy and churned out a six paper in less than a day. Following that essay, I had to write an essay about mediation in our society for my English class. I started writing the first paragraph one day, and finished the rest over a period of two nights. I was churning out scholarship papers left and right, while I was struggling writing my mediation essay. After finishing my scholarship essays, I had my “ah-hah” moment as a writer. I realized that I found writing personal narratives enjoying and so much easier than writing an essay about advertising. I since learned to somehow relate whatever I am writing about to myself, whether it be subtle or explicit, so I can write papers
