Personal Narrative: My Honors English Class

Decent Essays
During my first years as a high school student, I usually procrastinate on my assignments because I couldn’t balance the workload between my most challenging classes, which was my Honors English class and my AP European class. As a result, I end up having to choose between them as to what assignment I have enough time to do. That school year was one of the hardest for me. I was able to stay on track and handle my workload by writing down everything I had to do. To-do lists were very helpful for me and I found my tasks to be more manageable than I thought. The next year, I struggled in my Honors Precalculus class. It was very difficult for me to adjust to my teacher’s ways and I felt very overwhelmed at that time. He gave plenty of assignments

When I was in elementary and middle school I didn't really have a subject preference. I was just okay at every subject and I couldn't find myself interested in anything particular. I didn't feel lost because I had plenty of time to decide what I wanted for myself that would make me happy. After a certain point in my life though, I have always had a preference for English, a preference that I didn't act on until recently.…

I was 10 years old. I looked from the edge of the mat, unaware about the endeavor I was about to take the moment my foot touched that mat. I finally decided to walk on, like they had taught me by bowing, it was the first of a near million times I was going to do this. I was a white belt, at the best taekwondo centers in the area. All the kids, stood to the side eerily silent, waiting for instructions.…

Now I could lie and make up stuff that made me like reading and writing but I see no point in that. Honestly I don’t have a lot of memories of reading and writing from when I was a little kid and I can tell you now that football hasn’t helped me at remembering those memories either. With that being said I do remember some memories, some are good and also bad.…

There are good writers and there are good writers who work hard to become better. Mrs. Fiske, my English teacher junior and senior year of high school always told me that I was one of the best writers in my class but I could always be better. Spelling has always been one of my strong suits and I always get bothered when people can’t spell simple words. I’m pretty good at writing essays but I do not enjoy writing them at all.…

My parents have said to work hard and do my best in school. I never understood why until I got older. The reason they told me to do my best in school was because they wanted me to think about school and my future. Both of my parents didn't get the chance to go to college. They both came to the United States looking for what most people come to the United States for ‘The American Dream’, they wanted a place where they could raise their children and find a stable job.…

High school changes people. They express themselves, become opinionated, and they start to look at the world differently as they experience things they have never encountered before. A wise Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “Man’s mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions.” This quote is an excellent way to describe my experience in high school.…

I have not had any college-level writing classes previously. I am sure that I do some form of college-level writing within my job. While my ending document is acceptable it takes me a substantial amount of time to get to the final product. I would say my biggest struggle is with punctuation knowing where to put commas, semi-colons and colons at within the document. I believe two of my strengths that I could assist others with is, focus and conventions.…

While i have had many problems reading and writing, the projects i have accomplished have taught me some processes to help.i am like all people i am not perfect, so one of my big struggles growing up was reading and writing. first of all, i always try to write so fast causing it to become messy and unorganized. I find it better to write if you slow down, take your time, and copy notes off a friend if you get behind. Another problem i have is creating a story to write about. This problem may be very hard to fix for most people but, it helps me when i stop everything i am doing close my eyes and start to think about my topic.finally, the last problem i had with writing was punctuation.…

My first-year, second-semester writing class was Analytical Reading and Writing. My first impression of the course was that it is going to be a tough class but end up being reasonable it was neither too hard nor too easy. The class was designed to help improve and enhance critical thinking, reading, and writing skills. Learning how to identify key argument and supporting detail, how to synthesize texts. And throughout the semester I made an improvement on the areas of critical thinking, reading, and writing.…

I remember when I was 5, the first time I went to a building daily for 8 hours. I sat down on the cold blue chair. In front of me was a bin of crayons, all the colors of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and purple. I remember sitting in the cold room and having the freedom to draw marks on my blank sheet of paper. The dye scratching against the table, colors spreading across the canvas like the sun, rising in the early morning.…

This past March, I was choosing my classes for my freshman year of high school. My mother and I were looking over the courses offered for first-year students at the high school, when we saw that all students are required to complete a writing course while they attended Bedford High School. There were three options for how I could attend the course. I could take the course; in school during the summer, in school during the school year, or online during the summer. After talking to current high school students and hearing a presentation from guidance counselors, I knew that I should take the class in the summer, so I could take an extra elective and not be stuck with as much homework during the school year.…
