Essay on My Experience With Class Knowledge

After two semesters working with Communities in Schools I have now learned how class knowledge turns into hands on experience. It has been one of the most exciting times of my Social Work career growing so much in such a short amount of time. This internship has given me a sense of what it is like to work with children, which has motivated me even more to continue with this population. I have definitely realized in what personal areas I have grown. At the end of last semester I felt like what I had learned in class was nothing compared to what I had been experiencing in the field. Now that I am a few days from graduation, I have reflected on this amazing and life- changing journey. I have changed my mind over class knowledge not being present in the field. Every encounter in the field will not play out just like the ones in the books. We have been repeatedly taught that there is not one person who is the same, so neither will the experience with clients be similar. Another thing I have thought about is how important the code of ethics is and how much it is used. I have witnessed my supervisor go by the code of ethics when she is stuck in a dilemma. When I look at the list it seems to me like there is a lot, but during each of my encounters more than three items from this list can be pointed out, if not more.
