Constance Brown does not have a social work degree currently. She earned a degree in Sociology with a minor in Child Development from Missouri State University. She is currently taking bachelor classes for Social Work at Missouri State, to eventually earn her Master’s degree in Social Work at Missouri State.
How long have you been a social worker?
Constance has been working with the Green County Children’s Division since December of last year. She has been employed for sixteen months now. Prior to this she worked with Isabella’s House Crisis Nursery in Springfield, Missouri. One can work at Isabella’s House without a social degree, even though it is a social work environment.
Describe your social work experiences, prior to working for this agency. Constance work with Isabella’s House prior to working with the children’s division. Isabella’s House is a twenty-four hour, year round shelter house for children when the family is in a crisis. While working here Constance worked with children that came from dangerous home environments. As in drug houses, or receiving sexual abuse or physical abuse in the home. Working in this setting influenced Constance to make the decision of joining the Children’s Division. She found a love for the Children’s Division while working with the children in need at Isabella’s House. What is your title at this agency? Constance is a Family Centered Services worker at in the Green County Children’s Division. They work with families that have had hotlines made against them. They work to help teach the families new behaviors, to fix the situation. They aid the family in becoming a stable environment for the children in the home. If the situation is not fixed, the FCS workers then hotline, or transfer the case to the child protective services. What is your agency’s mission statement? How is it incorporated into everyday practice? The mission statement of the Green County Children’s Division is “It shall be the mission of the Children’s Division to partner with families and communities to protect children from abuse and neglect, to assure safety, permanency and well-being.” This is incorporated into their everyday practice by working with the families to help improve their parenting skills, to better the environment. Many people play many different roles in the Children’s divisions, and in the Family Centered Services. …show more content…
There are investigators who go out and investigate the allegations or hotline calls made against the families. They are the first to approach the case. Then come the referral workers, where the investigators send the family to open up a case for however long it is needed for the family. They work with the families to get them back on track and able to create a safe environment for the children. There are also different workers in different fields as in Foster parents, who take in the kids who were taken from the homes and care for them till they find next of kin or an adopted family. Then there are alternative care workers who work with children who go into protective custody, they will follow them throughout their protective custody time to make sure they are getting what they need, and are on the path of getting into a foster home, or an adopted home. Social work is also very new for her, she is just not starting to learn the lessons that social workers will learn in their career. She has learned to take much pride in what she does, and how she helps fix broken families. Every day is a new learning experience for Constance, she says that each family she helps can teach her something new that can help her with a different family. Constance said that is you are planning to be a social worker you need to understand that you will be continuously learning new things on an everyday
