During the years, healthcare staff have become more aware of the complex relationship between mental and physical health. Stress has been shown to have an obvious effect on patient quality of care outcomes, and abuse and addiction issues often include physical aspects that can put patients at risk. By making appropriate psychiatric and medical consultation available in healthcare facilities, telepsychiatry and telemedicine can improve the overall quality and effectiveness of the care offered to patients (INPATIENT UNIT, 2014-2017).
The purpose of this plan is to fund a program that offers telepsychiatry and telemedicine on an as needed basis to provide a more in-depth care for the inpatient on the unit during treatment to improve quality of

The focus for this plan will be to the Recovery unit on ground floor. The recovery unit houses 24 patients on a normal day. These patients range in age from 20-64 year in age. The patients admitted to or transferred to this unit are more functional and usually are on the borderline personality disorder of diagnosis. The patients at times do have medical issues that arise while on the unit for therapy and treatment. If a patient develops a medical issue the attending psychiatrist is the one to put in the order for medical consult. Once the medical consult is in it takes 24- to 48 hours before the Dr. comes to the floor to see the patient and decides a plan for his or her medical care. On the weekends, the Dr. coming to the floor to see the patient takes much more time than 24/48 hours, whether it’s medical concern or a psych crisis. This is where the telemedicine or tele-psych would be available for the benefit of the patient and the quality of care. When these patients have a crisis, they feel safer to see or talk to a therapist quickly as possible. When they have medical issue to arise they feel safer when able to address the issues with a medical doctor or a psychiatrist.
For some patients, access to a medical or mental health services provider can be life-changing. While benefits of virtual medical and mental health services differ from patient to patient, they can include: convenience, ease, and privacy. The medical and mental health tele services fit into some patient’s lifestyle better than other services. For some patient, just looking for the care they need can be stressful. Telemedicine provides for these needs, whether they be medical or

In order for me to do that I have to use the Telehealth links with the hospital that is a 1-hour drive away in order to get in contact with the psychiatrist that is located there in their emergency department.
