1. Overwhelmingly, the CEO’s of the largest companies in the United States are white males, but women and minorities are making inroads. Identify a leader who is a member of a minority group and discuss the challenges that he or she faced and overcame. Give a brief summary of the person’s background, education, experience and cultural history or identify.
Meg Whitman is CEO of Hewlett-Packard as of 2017, but she has also been CEO of a number of other major corporations, including eBay, Hasbro, and Walt Disney (“Meg Whitman”). Go online and search for at least three companies that are considered great places to work. Describe the compensation, benefits and perks at each of these companies. Of the three, which is most appealing to you and why? What type of qualifications/education do you need to work at this job/career?
Facebook offers no information about the monetary compensation they offer on their careers website. However, they do list excellent benefits, including health, dental and vision plans, investment plans, and retirement packages (“Work at Facebook”). The qualifications you need to work for Facebook vary depending on the job you are applying for, as they hire for a range of technical, business, service, and creative positions. However, a minimum of education required for most of the jobs they list is a graduate university degree (“Work at Facebook”).
Wegmans also offer a range of positions in areas such as customer service, manufacturing, and culinary. They offer comprehensive benefits, including health plans, life insurance, and retirement packages. On the down side, their compensation is at an hourly rate for most jobs, meaning that the salaries are overall not competitive with other companies.
