Wegmans produce department is a step above the rest with the “farm to market” system where the farmer does not ship their produce to the warehouse but to the actual chain, this lets Wegmans offer fresher produce, and reduces labor cost so the company does not need to transport the product from the warehouse back to the store and reducing the time the product sits on the shelf. Wegmans has also opted to use specially designed containers that go directly on the floor to keep from bruising or damaging the produce. Customers, especially when concerning produce want fresh products that are well taken care of. The meat department offers both fresh and frozen meat products with the butchering of the product taking place at their full-service butcher shop, this allows for a high quality of product. Strategically placing products with other similar products or products that go hand in hand is important, this can lead to customer satisfaction because they are not wasting their time looking for the products, for example you would want to keep all of the baby products together so the customer is not going to one end of the store for diapers, and the other end of the store for the baby food.
