Columbia Southern University One of the biggest topics currently on the news today is the use of medical marijuana, and it being labeled as a schedule one drug. Meaning it has “no medical value or use and is one of the more dangerous drugs with potentially severe phycological or physical dependence” according to the United States Drug Enforcement Agency (D.E.A.). In the United States of America a total of 23 states, the district of Columbia, and Guam now allow for comprehensive public medical marijuana and cannabis programs. How does this make sense? Medical marijuana has been used for medicine through out past history, from as early as ancient China and Egypt, to still today all over the world. Medical marijuana has more positive effects than negative, it helps people with epilepsy, insomnia patients, and veterans suffering form post traumatic stress disorder and depression. One in 26 americans will develop epilepsy during their lifetime according to The Epilepsy Foundation. People with epilepsy don 't choose to have it, but currently pharmaceutical companies medications to treat epilepsy have very bad side effects like losing appetite, stomach upset or discomfort, dizziness, and blurred vision.
