Martin Luther king demonstrated many forms of leadership through his campaign as the boycott leader of African Americans in their time of need. Luther’s speech I have a dream, shows the inspirational and charismatic elements of a transformational leader. It was through his speeches and his actions that he was able to come across as a very calm person and one that had a goal, to preach the word of the Lord and to free blacks from segregation. This leadership style has its benefits and its faults, one of the benefits is that the boss gets to do whatever he or she wants and the workers etc have to do what they say, but if that fails then it all falls on whoever is in charges shoulders.
Democratic Leadership- democratic leadership style is a style where opinions are taken on board and suggestions are asked for not disregarded. This form of leadership is one that works well in groups as well as individuals and helps the moral of the group to remain high. Employee’s etc feels like they are wanted and that their opinion is heard and considered which therefore makes them feel a part of something worth working for.
Transformational Leadership- this form of leadership is one that improves something. It transforms it for the better, it is much like democratic leadership but it provides more. The factors influencing leadership dictated how Martin Luther King approached his leadership role as he chose to take a non-violent approach. He chose this path as he believed that if he brought non-violence to the table as well as a transformational approach that he would gain more followers, not end up in jail or dead and that he would also be following the way of God and not harming another man. It was through these actions that he gained the respect of many white people as well as the whole black community.
