Reflective Essay: How Helpful Is Managing Oneself?

I thought that Managing Oneself was an extremely beneficial book, even though this book was petite compared to Great by Choice, I got several great information from this book. This book was easier for me to stay focus on and gain information that will help me in the present and future time, such as how manage the work-studies and my co-worker and how to improve myself. There was several information that I would never thought about when I am working or want I should be doing. Some of the questions that this book had me thinking about was “What are my strengths,” “How do I perform,” “What are my values,” “Where do I belong,” and “What should I contribute.”

When trying to figure what how you perform, according to the book you should figure out if you are a reader or listener and how do you learn. The author believes that the first thing you should know is if you are a reader or a listener. While I was reading this section, I kept pondering about if I am a reader or a listener. I believe that I am a reader, for the reason that I like to have the list of questions so I can meditate on the answers prior to answering the questions. Conversely, I believe that someone’s strength is a reader, nonetheless should be able to be a listener when needs to be. …show more content…
These elements are what does the situation require, how can my strengths, performance, and values generate an impact that needs to be done, and what results needs to be achieved to create a difference. When setting goals, you should consider what goals that you can achieve in the next year and a half; yet the goal should be difficult to achieve though within reach and should be meaningful. The course of action should be what to do, where and how to start, and what goals and deadlines that needs to be set. Since these goals might require us to work as a team, then you should learn how your responsibilities in your relationships are affected. If you want to be effective, you should understand that other people are as individual as you are, so you need to know their strengths, values, and performance. Second important part of the relationship is communication. If there is a lack of communication, then it will lead to lack of trust within the relationship and the team will not achieve the goal.
