Pros And Cons Of Hewlett Packard

According to Robbins and Judge, managers that take time to walk around and network with the workforce of their company on a regular basis are practicing “management by walking around” or MBWA. Hewlett Packard is one successful company that uses this management practice. (Robbins & Judge, 2013) Many companies do not use this management practice due to the fact that it takes time away from the normal duties of management. Managers spend most of their time on analysis, coordination, and strategic planning. (Robbins & Judge, 2013) There are pros and cons to this type of management style.

Learning Opportunities
Walking around the company, where all of the employees are actually working can be a real benefit for a manager. Seeing the workforce doing their daily tasks can help the manager see individual moods, emotions, and decision-making abilities. (Robbins & Judge, 2013) It would be much clearer what kind of issues workers may be having completing their jobs, and if there seems to be a lot of stress in the atmosphere. The manager may notice that a particular task is too hard for one employee. It may also help the manager have a better understanding of how the company actually performs if they

It is however dependent on the culture that the company creates with its workers. There are many benefits that a manager or executive can gain by using this style of management. Such as individual worker’s moods, emotions, and decision-making abilities. (Robbins & Judge, 2013) It can also let the managers see how the departments function as groups. Managers have an important role as they analyze, coordinate, and plan for the company.
