It explains why there is a female on this cover, they are trying to appeal to other females so that they can potentially smoke and buy their brand. That is an association people might make when they see advertisement or that golf players like to smoke. Other associations could be that the brand really does make you happy like the slogan says because she is smiling or that women prefer this brand. Components designed to get the audience's attention are the golfing glove and ball, the cigarettes and their package, and the female. In this advertisement the creators used both ethos and logos. However, the logos did not appear present and therefore was lacking in any type of logical evidence. Therefore, this is the part that was ineffective in the ad, especially if they had someone watching this ad that solely had logos based thinking mindset. While ethos was present in the ad, it was not the main rhetorical appeal used and in return, did not have a huge impact on the audiences' reactions towards the ad like the use of pathos did. The couple also appears to have neat clothing, this seems out of place in an apartment such as the one depicted in the ad. Also, the Marlboro brand name and the picture of the marlboro cigarettes give the ad credibility as well, as Marlboro is a widely recognized brand. Although minimal in this ad, there is also some logical appeal, however flawed it may be.
