The funniest difference between the ads is that you can tell when the cigarette companies had to put health labels on their ads. In the 1979 Camel ad, it had a warning that this cigarette is bad for your health. Meanwhile, the 1940s Camel ad didn’t have these warnings. It was quite the opposite the 1940s Camel ad had what Jib Fowles would call “A need to feel safe appeal”. The 1940s Camel ad describes their product as the cigarette most consumed by doctors. Another ad in the cigarette category was the 1970s Marlboro cigarettes. This cigarette ad showed the need to escape. The 1970s Marlboro showed a cowboy and with a slogan “Come to Marlboro Country”. The ad wants you to be like a bold cowboy, but to be a bold cowboy you must smoke
