Almost all commercial that are shown on TV, they are trying to persuade the viewer to buy something. In this commercial it 's the exact opposite. They are trying to influence the viewer into not buying cigarette by using fear and facts. They dramatize one fact about cigarettes causing tooth decay and tooth loss in hopes the fear involved will persuade the viewer. The customer is unable to buy the cigarettes because there “isn 't enough” to cover the cost. They imply that there 's a bigger cost involved other than the money on the counter. The bigger, more personal cost for cigarettes in this case is the mans teeth.
The audience, although it could be anyone, is specifically people that smoke. I get the feeling that this specific commercial is also to teenagers who might want to start smoking. This commercial doesn 't really affect people that don 't smoke or have the urge to smoke. Although this commercial can be hard for everyone to watch it hits those that smoke a little harder. If I smoked and saw this commercial I think I 'd think twice about lighting up my next cigarette.
