Love Sick Play Analysis

On October 28, 2017, I attended Desert Hot Springs High School’s theatrical performance, Love Sick, a play produced by John Cariani. Mr. Landmann is the head director of the theater department at DHSHS and was able to execute a great show with the help of his students: Matilde Alejandro, Megan Johnson, Bethany Navarro, Luis Salazar, Nathaniel Esparza, Natalia Martinez, Angel Limas, Esmeralda Hernandez, Esmeralda Salazar, Nicholas Jacob Gamboa, Baylee Bryant, Jonathan Calderon, Erika Aleman, Jesus Hernandez, Austin Aguirre, Edna Escobedo, Anjali Singh, Angel Ramirez, Elijah Cross, Michelle Lopez, Alondra Campos, Sadie Cunningham, Joseph Arisco, Maya Souza, Efrain Flores, Kimberly Solano, and Zauriah Cotton. Love/Sick is a play that contains lovers and dreamers that look into the agony and the happiness that comes with being in love and in relationships. To begin with, the plot of the play was very straightforward and unmissable. It outlined all the effects, good and bad, that comes with being in a relationship as well as depicting all the dilemmas. The story worked …show more content…
It was able to establish a definite mood which was joyfulness, but at the same time heartbreaking to witness the difficult problems these couples faced. Whenever the scene was focused on one specific person, the light would enhance that as it was only shown on that person. It conveyed the appropriate mood for the current situation of the scene that was on. For example, when the singing telegram man was ready to communicate the heart-rending message to Louise, the light shined only on him. Through this effect, it portrayed a suspenseful setting which foreshadowed what was to come. The costumes and makeup were very effective because it made it seem like one was at a professional play. However, the music played between each act could have been chosen more wisely to go with the overall theme of the play because at times the songs would just be “today’s

All I can say is, the story had somewhat of a quicker pace and sometimes harder to follow and small details could easily be missed, and the lighting was a tiny bit distracting when it flashed across the stage quickly. The use of sound effects was used to signify different things that caught the attention of the viewers and really added a special touch to the play. The play showcased beautiful and stunning singing which made the play more authentic, combined with the elaborate dances numbers truly made the show breathtaking and…

On the night of January 28, in 1985 in the 97th General Hospital at a United States Army base in Frankfurt, West Germany, is the birthplace of a man that would soon change the music world forever with his powerful array of lyrical meaning and word play. Also known as Jermaine Lamar Cole, J. Cole’s arguably most popular song, “Love Yourz” not only demonstrates palpable humility in which Cole compares the two types of lives he has lived, but also distress to a belief that this nation has built itself around, the American Dream. Rapping at the age of twelve, Cole’s love and passion for creating music has spurred him to become the harbinger of rap music in today’s society. Living with only his older brother, Zachary, his mother, and only the image…

I recently enjoyed the Frisco Community Theatre production of EVITA the musical. The message I took in while watching this play is follow your dreams no matter what. This message was perhaps very clear to the audience because the main character would not settle for anything less even though she was getting backlash for stealing the love interest of another character. The directors, actors, and designers were very distinguished in transporting us to where the story takes place.…

On January 19th, I watched the play entitled “Driving Miss Daisy” written by playwright Alfred Uhry which was featured at the John Golden Theatre in 2010. The play told the story of a wealthy Jewish woman named Miss Daisy Werthan, her son Boolie and the African American driver named Hoke who was hired to drive her around after Boolie became worried about his mother’s safety following a car accident that occurred prior to the play being introduced. Although there were many things in the play that caught my interest, the elements that were most crucial to the play was the set design and the acting. I think even though there were only 3 actors throughout the play and there wasn’t any big landscape changes, the play was entertaining and the acting was believable and well-done. I also believe that the setting of the play was an interesting choice because the only thing on the stage in one of the scenes was 1 white chair and a wooden bench.…

The Christians Critique The Christians investigates the consequences that occur when the pastor of a megachurch announces that there is no hell. This jarring claim made at the beginning of the play sets the stage for many future conflicts and obstacles. Performed at the DeWitt Theatre on Hope’s campus, the play did an excellent job of encouraging the audience to think about what his or her spiritual responsibility is as a parent, spouse, or congregation member. Furthermore, I noticed that the lighting techniques, the skilled acting, and the symbolism enhanced the play’s meaning and its impact on the audience.…

To add, there was a blank sheet backdrop that was very cleverly used throughout the play. In a scene where there was plane chasing the main character on the opposing side of the sheet a light was shown with a model airplane to give the crowd the idea that a plane was flying. Also, in another scene there was a party and some of the actors were behind the sheet dancing with manicans to give the audience the perception that many people were there. If there were more complex scenes such as a scene on a train the characters used their bodies and motion to signify what was happening and the audience was forced to use their imagination. Many times this was done in a comedic way that also added to the value of the production.…

Angels in America: Millennium Approaches exhibited a dynamic performance at Round House Theatre in Bethesda. The deep character development, plots, themes, and spectacles meshed together to create a theatrical experience that I thoroughly enjoyed. To begin, Angels in America had multiple messages throughout the show due to the different conflicts that existed amongst characters. One main theme and message that I felt was to stay true to yourself and always be who you really are. I feel this is a central theme because it pertains to many different characters, whether it be Prior, Louis, Joe, Harper, or Roy, and also pertains to different themes within the play, such as sexuality and visions for the future.…

I really felt like the actors such as Gabriel J. Franco Kull, who acted as Paris, and Aaron Beckford, acting as Camacho, really got to know who their character was and did very good jobs in character. They way they moved, talked and even felt was incredible as you felt as though they really were those characters from the play through their awesome vibe. The way the actors would scream at each other and throw themselves over the stage from one side to the other and at the same time acting and speaking their parts really made it feel real and believable. Katherine Daniel as the Duchess, Raul Chaves as Estacio, and Cynthia Alvarez as Finea, were also great actor who gave an added comedic sense to the whole role. The clever side comments Estacio and Finea would make and the hilarious outbursts and exaggerated performance the Duchess would outburst with really was enjoyable and funny.…

The casting of the actors for this play were well suited with the talents of each of the performers. They drew the audience into the action and provided the audience a balance of character development and comedic content. This was reinforced through the play with actors monologs directed toward the audience, revealing a characters internal conflicts. One area that was a bit of a contradiction came with the choice of using Amanda Tavarez and Belinda Boyd in the roles of Gwendolyn and Lady Bracknell. Being that the story line was to take place in the 1890s in England; given the characters were upper class, it would seem improbable that the marriage of John and Gwendolyn would be acceptable.…
