Labyrinth Of Desire

It’s a great thing when the feelings you get after anything ends are better than what you had expected. The experience I had while going to see the Labyrinth of Desire, directed by Rebecca Rivas, turned out to be a fun and much better than one would expected. Labyrinth of Desire is a play based off of Lope De Vega’s La Prueba de los Ingenios, where as the play takes its course when Florela’s fiancé, Alejandro, decides to leave her and compete with other suitors for the hand of the rich and beautiful Laura. Florela goes undercover to keep her man and does all that she can to convince Laura and Alejandro that they are not for each other. Filled with several points of deception and comical disguises, this comedy and romantic role play explores …show more content…
I really felt like the actors such as Gabriel J. Franco Kull, who acted as Paris, and Aaron Beckford, acting as Camacho, really got to know who their character was and did very good jobs in character. They way they moved, talked and even felt was incredible as you felt as though they really were those characters from the play through their awesome vibe. The way the actors would scream at each other and throw themselves over the stage from one side to the other and at the same time acting and speaking their parts really made it feel real and believable. Katherine Daniel as the Duchess, Raul Chaves as Estacio, and Cynthia Alvarez as Finea, were also great actor who gave an added comedic sense to the whole role. The clever side comments Estacio and Finea would make and the hilarious outbursts and exaggerated performance the Duchess would outburst with really was enjoyable and funny. Some of the other performances such as from Nita Mendoza as Florela, Roger M. Canales as Alejandro, and Valeria Alvarez as Laura, helped set the basis and foundation for the whole play. Their performances were well done and their expressive acting really did carry the idea of what the actual character would be like. In general, acting was very well done throughout. The only thing that I think needed work would have been the projection of their voice in scenes where the characters had to whisper or contemplated things with the audience softly. …show more content…
The lighting was effective in setting the mood of the plot at its different stages and also in pointing out what needed to be seen and what not. Something that was really interesting to see was how lights were used to light up the stage in different colors such as the red and blue during the time the actors were in the labyrinth giving it a scary feeling and making the whole experience much enjoyable as the actors feared for their lives in the “darkness” of the labyrinth. The lighting helped the directing in a way that the setting could represent the light of day as when the whole stage was flooded with light so all the acting was visible and then as well when it was completely dimed out and only spotlights were used to follow the characters as they moved through the night. Then again, it was all well executed and done so in a great way to show what the director wanted out of the acting and enjoyed by the

It is amazing how the available light, soft light, and hard lighting can have such a huge impact in this movie. By picking these certain techniques of lighting it help to play a role in creating certain emotions among actors without the use of words and influence the audiences to develop their own prospected with only minor persuasion of light usage displayed on the characters. Besides the lighting that is utilized throughout the entire movie to help to create a certain mood among the audience, the choice of non-diegetic music was just as intense in generating even more…

It was able to establish a definite mood which was joyfulness, but at the same time heartbreaking to witness the difficult problems these couples faced. Whenever the scene was focused on one specific person, the light would enhance that as it was only shown on that person. It conveyed the appropriate mood for the current situation of the scene that was on. For example, when the singing telegram man was ready to communicate the heart-rending message to Louise, the light shined only on him. Through this effect, it portrayed a suspenseful setting which foreshadowed what was to come.…

The lights played a big role to me because they were dramatic. Sometimes the lights were very low, very bright, centered (focused only on him), and other times they were colorful. This had a big impact on the overall play because beside the little music that was played his all black attire, and his minimal movement, him and the lights were the main characters.…

Del Toro has alternated between Spanish language dark fantasies, such as the supernatural horror film “The devil’s backbone” in 2001 and “Pan’s labyrinth” in 2006. Pan’s labyrinth morphs from a fantasy world to a horrific reality throughout the movie to effectively make a film that convey the value of imagination. Imagination is one of the most distinct tools utilized to obtain a better reality in Pan’s labyrinth and in part, the world around us.…

In my opinion, the play exceeded my expectations. I did not expect the actors to perform in a way that made me believe his or her conflict. The setting was well thought out and complimented the dialogue in a way that made me pay more attention to the conflict. The painting also added to the setting by focusing on the art aspect of the play. I also enjoyed the humor of the play.…

He used lighting in several scenes of the performance to captivate the audience or help explain what was happening. For example, lighting was used effectively when the Dragon was first shown in the play. Donkey was really scared and the darkness really helped show that, as well get the audience to experience that them self. The lighting was also very useful for the transitions throughout the play. It was used to show the transition between day and night when the characters were traveling.…

I felt her character was quite confusing due to the fact that she is a woman playing a male role. It was kind of hard for me to catch on as to who she was. I think she did alright; she was standing sideways instead of facing the audience when she was having a conversation with Iago which played a role in it being kind of hard for me to understand what she was saying. Her custom selection was good for the time period and she played a good fighting scene when she and Iago got in a sword fight. Alistair Mann played the character Iago.…

Within the first five minuets, the audience can see how important the lighting is going to be throughout the movie. In the movie, the director focuses on lighting to portray the mood to the audience. The lighting would appear dim when times were bad, and brighter when good things were happening. For example, when Andy first arrives to the prison it is a very dim day, no sun was visible. As he gets off the bus he appears timid, Red says, “a stiff breeze could blow him over.”…
