Lovesport by Tony Padilla, A Play For The Modern Age On March 26th 2017, I attended the Palm Springs Woman’s Club’s Pearl McManus Theatre and watched the show Lovesport. The play takes place in the present, 2017, in Josh and Marty’s house which is near San Francisco. One night after a party, Josh and Marty invite Gary and Ben over and they all hang out and talk. During this time, Ben and Josh talk to one another about how they feel about their relationships with his boyfriend or husband and Marty and Gary do the same. Later, Ben tells Gary he wants a divorce and Josh tells them that Marty had an affair and he now is HIV positive. Then, Ben and Gary leave and the audience is left wondering if they will end up back together or will end up going …show more content…
Gazpar Ascencio who played as Ben in the show. One thing that he did really good was how he exploded when he said that he wanted a divorce. The way he did made it look like he had all of this bottled up rage from the marriage and let them all out. Another way he made his performacne great was the way he acted with his spouse, Gary. He came off as a bit distant toward him and even though he claimed to be in love with him, before he told him that he wanted a divorce, it was clear that he was not satisfied with his relationship. Also, the way he consistantly keeps pushing to find out the skeletons in Josh and Marty’s relationship comes off as very realistic. However, I had some issues with the way he performed as his character. One problem that I had was after he went outside with Josh to smoke, he comes back and his hair is not combed any more and it stays that way for the entire show. This causes him to often move his hair out of his eyes throughout the show and it was really distracting. Another problem that I had with his performance is he did not seem like he was doing much when he was not talking. I prefer to have people act in the background to look like they are clearly listening to a person, but that is just my personal preference. In the end, he performed

A play's significance on the other hand, is often revealed by looking back to the period when it was first written and performed on stage. The Shifting Heart, arguably Richard Beynon's most distinguished play premiered at the Newtown Theatre in Sydney, 1957, under the Australian Elizabethan Theatre Trust's sponsorship and production (Elizabethan Theatre Trust, n.d). Resultant successful national tours, a West End production, multiple awards, critical acclaims and current place in the NSW school syllabus are perhaps the hallmarks of such a play. The characteristics of a canonical work? Check, check and check.…

Play Review - Subterranean Homesick Blue Again In Dennis Reardon’s fantasy play, “Subterranean Homesick Blues Again,” a group of people aged 19-24 go spelunking. There are a number of arguments and laughs while they head further down, as well as plenty of beautiful sights to see; however, the situation becomes dire when they reach level 3. The tour guide introduces himself as Charon, Hades’ ferryman. After introducing himself, he takes the group to the Gates of Hades, where they are to stay, unfeeling, for all eternity.…

For the first activity, I attended the play “The Last Five Years”, held Friday October 7, 2016 in the Harold and Jean Lambert Recital Hall. As stated in the playbill, The Last Five Years is “a show about a relationship, about a marriage…it’s told from two angles. From the man’s point of view, it starts at the first meeting and ends in the present…from the woman’s point of view, it starts in the present and works back to the first meeting.” (citation). The cast was made up of college students Caroline Stuart (Cathy), who produced the play as a part of her senior study, and Austin Loo (Jamie).…

The song “I Don’t Care” by Fall Out Boy, accurately represents Olivia’s innermost thoughts. Pete Wentz, the artist who wrote the song, said that “I Don’t Care” is a narcissist’s anthem, which is exactly what Olivia is. When the reader first meets Olivia, she is mourning her brother’s death and promises to do so (and swear off men) for 7 years. However it is later revealed that these feelings and promises are not very genuine, because as soon as she meets Cesario, she changes into cheerful clothing to greet him, completely forgetting about her brother.…

Gone Home is a narrative exploration game by the company Fullbright that stars Kaitlin Greenbriar returning to her family home after being overseas. Gone Home is often questioned on the complexity of its game play, and is often thought to be more of an interactive story, however it does fulfill the requirements of a game and I will be discussing various game play mechanics in Gone Home such as the different objects and their attributes, rules for game play and the overall design that help to support the narrative, as well as how all of this is used to create an effective story and why this is the best medium for such a story. I will start by giving the briefest of summaries; the game opens with Kaitlin, who we control in a first person perspective, returning home to a locked house all set in the 90s Their is a note left…

On the night of January 28, in 1985 in the 97th General Hospital at a United States Army base in Frankfurt, West Germany, is the birthplace of a man that would soon change the music world forever with his powerful array of lyrical meaning and word play. Also known as Jermaine Lamar Cole, J. Cole’s arguably most popular song, “Love Yourz” not only demonstrates palpable humility in which Cole compares the two types of lives he has lived, but also distress to a belief that this nation has built itself around, the American Dream. Rapping at the age of twelve, Cole’s love and passion for creating music has spurred him to become the harbinger of rap music in today’s society. Living with only his older brother, Zachary, his mother, and only the image…
