I agree that “lyrics can be accurate reflections of the person who wrote them (Nelson 7)”, but I disagree with the fact that rap music is the only genre targeted for writing songs about committing a crime… There are probably as many answers to the question “Why do people write songs?”, as there are songwriters in the world. But one thing that all song writers have in common, is the desire to communicate and express themselves. It gives out emotions about the singer’s life. The lyrics in songs that singers write, tells other people a situation in their life that was hard or difficult for them. I don’t think that it’s right for the police to refer their emotions to a crime. That’s not ok. But I do believe that you should think about the lyrics you are writing, before you make it publicly known. You may be seeking for attention, but depending on what you’re saying, you could be seeking the wrong attention from the wrong crowd.
