As stated in the United States Constitution, “freedom of speech gives the people the right to express their opinions publicly without government interference”. We don’t see country music artists being told what they can and cannot sing, unlike the hip-hop artists. Essentially, the group was expressing themselves whether you like it or not. Their music is the reflection of their reality. The police have the authority to kill and shoot a Black person, whereas the Black artists do not have the freedom to openly express their struggles. The music they produce inspired by the encounters they had with the law enforcement. The group was discriminated against by the law enforcement, the movie doesn’t show a crime which they violated. However, the police and the media represent them as violent and dangerous to the society. As their music led to the belief that has a bad influence on the community. The police felt they were disrespected by the music, but not liking and disagreeing with the music doesn’t make the artists’ criminals nor a danger to the society. Let alone a restorative justice; in fact, they were being arrested and charge for the crime they did not commit in the first place. I believe the ultimate goal was to punish African Americans to the fullest extent of the law. Additionally, the correlation does still exist, seeing White officers, shooting and killing unarmed Black individuals in many cities across the United States. The criminal justice system wasn’t built in favor of African Americans, in fact, it is rigged against them, as they often get jail time rather than going into the rehabilitation
