The purpose of this study was to examine literacy support services at the college level. The research guiding the development of this action research project found that college students need learning support for a variety of reasons. Literacy support services are necessary because students have skill deficits caused by a variety of conditions, they struggle with real life complications, and they can have motivational and self-efficacy issues. In order to be effective in promoting student success and retention, these services need to be utilized consistently by students and professors.
