Leadership Trait Theory Analysis

The absence of leadership is equally dramatic in its effects. Without leadership, organizations move too slowly, stagnate, and lose their way (Newstrom, 2002). This week’s lesson engaged learners in the process of better understanding how leadership is impacted by traits and skills. The trait approach has been interest if scholars since 1948. Consistent in the variations, updates and/or views about the trait approach were the major leadership traits within; it is suggested that the leader possess intelligence, self-confidence, determination, integrity and sociability. To further the trait theory it is suggested that there are five big consistent personalities factors within this theory; neuroticism, extraversion, openness, agreeableness and conscientiousness (Northouse, 2013).
As a way to determine/measure individuals’ personality characteristics many use the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. The Leadership Trait Questionnaire (LTQ) is provided as an example to measure personal leadership characteristics. By taking the

Although deemed more important than others, the skills approached include three major concepts to determine the skills approach of a leader: the technical aspect, human aspect and the conceptual aspect (Northouse, 2013). The skills approach is mainly used to determine the effectiveness of performance, and how one of three areas are used as the leaders area of strength and depending on the scoring will add the leader with understanding the area in which he or she needs growth.
A skills self-inventory questionnaire is used to measure and/or give a sense of one’s leadership competency. As shared during the video both traits and skills are a part of the leadership process. Some leaders have one some consider the personality then others learn the skills needed to be an effective leader. Both traits and skills work interchangeable in the leadership
