To the contrary, sometimes this style might leads to frustration, low morale and conflicts among subordinates. Most of the subordinates also tend to shirk responsibility and initiative.
Democratic style is where the leader decentralises and assigns high authority to his subordinates. This type of leader makes a final decision only after discussion with the subordinates. Under this particular leadership style, a manager gives absolute freedom to his subordinates. The whole decision-making authority is entrusted to them. There is very little or no intervention by the leader and so the group operates entirely on its own. The way of communication is free flow. The manager does not use power but maintains contact with subordinates. Therefore, subordinates have to exercise self-control. The laissez-faire leadership style helps subordinates to develop independent personality. Under this leadership style, there are some numbers of advantages. To begin, it can be illustrated that there is rather a positive effect on job satisfaction and moral of subordinates. Initially, it also gives opportunity to take initiative to the subordinates. There is maximum possible opportunity for development of subordinates. However, certain disadvantages are also affiliated to this type of leadership style which can be overseen or bypassed. Under this leadership style, there is absolutely no leadership at all. The subordinates do not get any direction and instruction or any kind of support on behalf of the leader. The subordinates may proceed in several varied directions and may work at cross purpose which may create problem for the organisation. Researchers at Ohio State University uses many different techniques and ways as well as observing leaders in laboratory setting up as well as surveying then, in order to understand behaviours of effective leaders. It also highlighted that leadership style which is high in initiating structure as well as high in consideration, generally have positive outcomes. This research stream led to the discovery of two categories of behaviour namely task-oriented behaviours which is sometimes called initiating structure and people-oriented behaviours which is also called consideration. These two categories of behaviour mean more or less the same things as task behaviour and relationship behaviour of a leader. Task-oriented behaviours is about structuring the roles of subordinates, providing them with instructions and behaving in ways that will raise the performance of the group.
