Some of the most important positions are his pro-choice position earned him 20 and 29% between 2006-2009 and 2011. He received a 100% in 2003 from Family Planning Advocates of New York State because they offer resources for any reproductive health services. Another important position is his support on attacking the root causes of homelessness is his unemployed and low-income areas. He was rated 100% in 2009 by the Partnership for the Homeless. Based on the ratings he received from the National Rifle Associations we can infer that his position is on the support of limiting gun possession and increasing the restrictions when purchasing weapons for the safety of the community. The National Rifle Association gave him a D, F and a 7% between 2004-2012. the New Yorkers Against Gun Violence, however rated him a 100% in 2004. His support for the protection of wildlife and animals helped him receive high ratings from Human Society of New York and the League of Humane Voters of New York City. He was rated a 60% in 2004 and a 80% in 2008 by the HSNY, and a 80% in 2007 by the LHV NY. He is the New York State Senator and has put effort into stopping actions he saw were wrong like education and CUNY. I don’t think he is a representative of me however because I don’t see his positions on multiple issues. Vote smart provides us with ratings however there is no positions so that we can see his action plan. Compared to Velazquez, Gillibrand, and Schumer, he has to come out with his position. I would stay neutral on voting for him because I feel like he can do better however he has accomplishments that would be able to keep him in office. Some leadership qualities that he has is being able to secure large amounts of money for multiple reasons. For example: as stated in his accomplishments section he, “Secured $282,000 in Federal funds to establish a Small Business Development Center at Brooklyn College, secured more than $2 million in funding for community organizations, and secured more than $15 million in capital funding for CBO's in and around his
