Paul Klee was born in Switzerland in 1879 to Hans and Ida Klee. His father Hans was a music teacher right outside of Bern Switzerland at the Bern State Seminary and his mom Ida was a singer. At the age of seven Paul started playing the violin and by the time he was eleven he was asked to play at the Bern Music Association. Clearly music was a big part of his childhood which is why so much of his artwork has been inspired by it. As all adolescent humans, Klee’s interests and opinions were what his parent’s interests and opinions were. When he got a little older he realized drawing fascinated him and he started to feel bound by where he could go in music.
