Introduction I titled this essay “Uncharted Journey of Faith” reflecting on the past, present and future growth of my faith experience. When I think of faith in general, the word mystery comes to my mind. A mystery is something difficult or impossible to understand or explain. Expressing my faith is like putting a puzzle together. There are many events that have contributed to the development of my faith in God. The events in retrospect helps me to put together the puzzle of my faith in such as way that I can make sense of it and share it with others. I was born in Buffalo, New York to Willie and Patty Martin. At the time of my birth my parents had three other daughters. Six years after my birth, my parents had their first son. Therefore, I am the baby girl of four siblings. My Parents were not very religious and they left our church attendance in the hands of my Aunt Ida. My Aunt Ida would take us to church as often as she could and eventually my mother would come along. We attended a Methodist church in the city and my mother began to usher. Therefore, we began to attend more frequently and I recall really enjoying it. The church was rich in architectural design. The inside was all knotted pine with a dark shine varnish. Everything was wood and it was accented with rich red carpet. The pulpit furnishings were handcrafted high back wooden chairs. The chairs had plush red cushions and the chairs were trimmed in gold. All the utensils for communion and offering were gold plated. For me, this church was the most beautiful place I had ever
