On Sunday, May 1st I attended a Catholic mass hosted by Reverend Gilday at Little Flower Catholic Church. The church was divided into 3 sections, north, south, and west of the altar in the center. It was a traditional mass given on the Sabbath, a required day of worship. He gave his speech through a homily during the mass reflecting upon the reading from the bible, but he also created a unique message driven from this reading. He started off the speech with a comfortable confidence and soft-spoken yet attention-grabbing speaking voice.…

What my husband's advancement to Chief Petty Officer means to me? The answer of that question could be 10 pages long or I could just resume what I feel in one word, "extremely proud", well I guess two words. I met Christian 16 years ago, he was full of energy, funny, and he had the ability to turn any sad or bad situation into a joke making everybody laugh; that is what make me fell in love with him. On the other hand, he was a little immature, unfocused when it comes to work, and nothing seemed to fulfill his expectations. I always knew that his passion was a career in the military, but that was out of question in my book!…

A Summit of Faith which took place in the Young Auditorium on Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. was a panel discussion that concluded a three-part series event. All events were based on The Saint and the Sultan authored by Paul Moses. The panel discussion was the part in the series which specifically intended to “bring Christians and Muslims together for an open panel discussion about compromise, filtered through the lens of the Saint and the Sultan.” It intended to do so by understanding history and discussing how it might serve today’s society given all the current problems still found in Christian and Muslim relations.…

Religious Response I have struggled with stories from the news of Catholic priests embroiled in child molestations and questioned my involvement or associating myself with an institution that not only denies some of the accusations but also hides the facts from the public. I sometimes ignore the stories thinking that hatred towards these evil people will stress me out to the point where I will leave the church completely for the lack of trust and deceptive tactics played on the congregation. What kind of person does this acts? What goes through their devious minds as they continue to practice their rituals and preach the gospel?…

It was a pleasure to read the book Acts Of Faith. I found it to be a very well written, and easy to understand. The author’s main point is to emphasize the importance of interreligious dialogue, especially among youth. The author, Eboo Patel, writes this book as an autobiography starting when he was a child, and continuing until he is about thirty, and has founded the Interfaith Youth Core (IFYC), biased in Chicago. He begins the book by illustrating the London bombings that occurred on July 7, 2005.…

Patience in Action and Faith is a Virtue of Jesus Christ Growing up in rural Upstate New York, I can remember how quite often my mother and father would repeatedly tell me and my brother that “patience is a virtue”. Granted this counsel, was often repeated during times of impatience and frustration. As a young child, it brings to my remembrance many experiences of sharing toys with my brother, wanting and waiting for the sharp edge of my popsicle to be cut off with scissors, or the endless “Are we there yet’s?” of our summer family road trips.…

For the past 3 weeks, I have been participating in the prayer project. I grew up in a culture of prayer, but it was more individualized than communal. By praying the morning prayers in The Book of Common Prayer, I was able to participate in a tradition of prayer that has been practiced for generations, and I was able to focus my prayer time on specific themes and patterns. Growing up, I was immersed in a prayer. Every class began with prayer, food was blessed, bedtime prayers were rehearsed, and prayers from Scripture were memorized.…

All believers must grow and mature in our journey of faith. We can all identify areas in which we must grow, but this growth is a process that takes time. It is a process in which I allow God to work on me, but I invest time for this to happen. The spiritual disciplines or rules of life are intentional external and internal changes that we desire and decide to do to love God and our brothers in a deeper way. But my desire and my effort are not what will transform me.…
