This book is the story of a teenager named Aza Holmes. It focuses on her day to day life and her continuing struggles with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and anxiety. Whilst portraying modern-day teenage tribulations, this fictional novel tells a story of love and mystery.
The main character in this story is Aza, a teenage girl who is very much an introvert and portrays her story as though she has no control over what happens and how, in the same manner as if she were scripted in a movie or play. When Aza was younger her father died of a sudden heart attack whilst mowing the lawn, this incident was one of the main causes of her anxiety and need for therapy. Russel Pickett was the father of Davis Pickett, one of Aza’s childhood friends. Davis Pickett is described as a ‘controversial CEO.’ He is described as being ‘controversial’ due to numerous lawsuits being dropped against him in suspicious circumstances, Aza believes this is due to him “bribing” government officials. A new search warrant is served against him by the Indianapolis police and days later he disappears. On the day Aza is informed of his disappearance, Daisy and Aza begin discussing the case. As their relationship progresses Davis offers the girls one hundred thousand dollars in an attempt to keep them quiet about the evidence acquired from the security cameras. Though Aza was reluctant at first Daisy accepted the money straight away. After receiving the money Aza advices Daisy to save the money for college yet Daisy goes against Aza’s advice and buys a new car. It is at this point that Aza and Daisy’s friendship begins to fall apart. Aza keeps instructing Daisy to not spend money, this leads to us learning more about Daisy’s character and her struggle with financial issues.
