Jill Wilhelm Case Study

It is with great pleasure that I recommend Jill Wilhelm. A kind-hearted and intelligent student, Jill is making the most of her high school career. I have been impressed with her dedication to academics and community. There is definitely more than meets the eye with Jill. An exemplary student with an apparent concern for others, she has distinguished herself among her peers. Her efforts have been rewarded with membership in NHS and she was awarded the Rochester Institute of Technolgy Computing Medal Award her junior year. Not only does Jill set high academic standards for herself, but also high moral standards. She is a young woman who is confident in her decisions and is unyielding to the peer pressure that high school students face. The ability to reach such high standards and goals can most definitely be attributed to Jill’s motivation, dedication and consistent effort.

From the start of her high school career to the present, Jill has consistently challenged herself with the most demanding courses. She has met the challenge with success repeatedly from year to year. When scheduling her senior year courses Jill was faced with a dilemma. She wanted to keep the rigor and balance of all her courses, but due to scheduling conflicts, sacrifices had to be made. It’s important to note Jill’s community service is not accomplished to merely place on her resume. She is whole-heartedly dedicated to helping others. Her dedication to helping others extends to her academic goals. She has studied Spanish throughout high school and plans to expand her language abilities at the collegiate level with the goal of expanding her communication skills and continue to expand her abilities to help others. This year is the first year American Sign Language is offered and Jill is excelling in the course. Jill never wants language as a barrier to helping

In high school, courses are taken by the student’s choice, not the parent’s. Because of the high expectations placed upon me by myself, my peers, my teachers, and parents, it is my obligation to strive to reach those expectations. Directly or indirectly, expectations placed upon myself has defined my character; however, like the author, expectations can lead a person through half the journey to success. The other half, one must take on his…

“Why I Chose Southwest” As a homeschooled high school senior, I am unable to take Advanced Placement courses, which are college-level classes taken at a high school. Students earn college credits by taking an exam at the end of the year. To remedy this, I decided to register at Southwest Tennessee Community College for dual enrollment classes. I chose Southwest for a multitude of reasons: to complete my high school education, to provide challenging courses in preparation for college, and to grant me college credit. I opted to take Pre Calculus, English Composition, and Anatomy & Physiology this semester.…

Upon enrolling in high school I realized that I could no longer put an average effort into easy class work and be rewarded with academic satisfaction. After joining the honors course along with band and the FFA, it was revealed to me that high school was a different culture than middle school. I quickly discovered that hard work would be required to be successful in everything I will ever do. Band demanded countless hours of practice, but I ultimately gained first chair in the top band, as well as squad leader over the trumpet section. Like band, the FFA required hours of dedication, but I distinguished myself from other FFA members.…

I was unfamiliar with the process of choosing the order of courses that would transition me to graduation. As a result, I took several non-required courses, and I even took some of the needed courses, for my degree, out of order. Needless to say, I hit an academic wall that lasted five long semesters. It would have been easier for me to change majors for the sake of graduation, but being in such a predicament only sharpened my perseverance and molded my determination. While these academic complications seemed unbearable at the time, my senior year turned out to be my most challenging year.…

In all of my time as a District 54 student, I was never more impacted by one individual than by Mrs. Michelle Burke. In eighth grade I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to enroll in the nearly brand new PLTW STEM class at Jane Addams Junior High. The class was spectacular for me, as I was formally studying a subject I had always wanted to learn more about. I was spellbound by the fact I was able to design an object on the computer, such as a holiday ornament or a toy car, and hold it in my hands after it had been 3D printed. I have always been enamored by the power to create, and the class let me take it one step further.…

High school years are some of the most challenging years many students face. Numerous students would agree that junior year is the most difficult and stressful of the four. I love challenging myself, to test my own limit. Therefore during my Sophomore year, I decided to take Pre-Calculus and AP Calculus at the same time. This was quite a bold move for myself, due to the fact that I would have to learn Pre-Calculus on my own in order to pass the class, and I was not a very good math student to start with. Both my Pre-Calculus teacher, and my Calculus teacher tried to discourage me from doing that. However, I was ready for the challenge…
