The FBI estimates that there are between twenty-five and fifty serial killers operating throughout the United States at any given time. By definition, a serial killer is someone who commits a series of murders, often with no apparent motive and typically following a predictable behavior pattern. Most serial killers are white, male, and in their mid-to-late twenties. They can be classified by their organization and social skills; they may be organized, disorganized, non social, or asocial. However, it is possible for serial killers to display characteristics of both organizational skills. Take Jeffrey Dahmer for example, he exhibited characteristics of both an organized and disorganized serial killer. During their childhood, serial killers tend to have an antisocial behavior, an interest in arson and torturing small animals, a poor family life, childhood abuse, substance abuse, voyeurism, intelligence, and a hard time keeping a job.
