The label serial killer is defined as a person who commits three or more killings. The killings have commonalities that propose the crimes were committed by the person or persons. Federal law provides this definition only to aid law enforcement agencies with investigations of serial killers. However, the definition is not meant to serve as all-encompassing description for serial murders. Serial killers vary in many ways so there is not a blanket profile for a serial killer. However, there are certain characteristics that seem to be common like, lack of remorse. As a teenager Dahmer was largely friendless, and rather uncommunicative. During his highschool years Dahmer started to become a heavy drinker and show interest in dead animals, a telltale sign of a future serial killer. Dahmer's father made him enlist , but, he got discharged for alcoholism. After getting discharged he lived in a hospital for a little where yet again he was kicked out due to alcoholism. After this Dahmer moved in with his grandmother where he began dissecting squirrels and dissolving their bodies in chemicals. His grandma made him move out so he got an apartment close to his job. After he moved into his apartment he committed his first sexual assault bgy drugging and fondling a 13 year old boy. After getting released from a work camp he moved into a new apartment where the murders began. His first murder took place in the summer of 1978. At the age of 18 Dahmer went and picked up a hitchhiker named steven hicks. Dahmer picked Steven up and took him to his fathers to drink some beer.
