I have found myself with limited options and prospects for high-level employment with my current education and experience. I have a varied amount of work experience, some of which is managerial. I am, however, finding quite an obstacle in seeing requirements of employers requiring a bachelor's degree at the minimum, knowing it is a shortcut for human resources to completely discount a resume that does not feature a degree. So, therefore, I have had to seek some way to get one, hoping that I can find something affordable and flexible. I have two children and work up to sixty hours per week. I am still paying on my student loans from twenty years ago. I was quite pleased to stumble upon the University of the People as a legitimate, inexpensive option that will allow me to advance in my current career while I pursue something which I may transfer into to increase my earning power. …show more content…
According to U.S. News and World Report, software development is rated the best job in the United States right now (https://money.usnews.com/careers/best-jobs/software-developer). Even the bottom 25th percentile earnings are $30,000 above what I am earning now and $15,000-$20,000 over what I can hope to make at top of my game. This type of work is know for its flexibility and ability to work from home. I also have a couple of friends who have expressed an interest in developing games and mobile applications with me. I have come to realize the lack of programming ability has been a serious obstacle to me in this endeavor, not to mention the free time I have available for such creative pursuits.
