Unit Eight Assignment PS365 My professional and educational journey began with my United States Army military service. I enlisted as a field medic. Once I had left the service I was placed on the IRR, and reactivated for Operation Desert Storm. When I got out again, I returned to civilian life and went to college at Angelo State University. I had a good friend whose life goal was to join the FBI, and since a requirement of that is that you have a degree, he was majoring in psychology, and I was majoring in accounting, of all things. We took a psychology class together and I was fascinated. I quickly changed my major and my minor was sociology. In a Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis from x, 2014, an article entitled Differential Suppression of Arousal by Sex Offenders, a study was detailed that evaluated whether arousal suppression could be elicited in two adult male sex offenders with intellectual disabilities and to ascertain whether arousal could be maintained to non-deviant stimuli concurrent with suppression of arousal to deviant stimuli.
Both of the adult males were accused of at least on sexual offense against a child, but found incompetent to stand trial, and both were reprimanded to a State treatment facility. Previous research for individuals with intellectual disabilities in the successful suppression of arousal has been inconsistent. There had been at least four previous studies of arousal suppression with ID prior; this study introduced new methods. The subjects were fitted with penile strain gauges and shown a series of thirty-one videos, three videos for each male and female: kindergarten, six to seven years, eight to nine years, teen, adult, and one set of adult male fishermen to serve as a neutral stimuli).
