“1.6 percent of 71,291 NCAA football players will make it to the NFL” (Estimated Probability). Football has been a very popular sport for many years, but a lot of bad can come out of this sport. The chances of making it to the NFL are very slim, almost zero percent. Also football can cause head injuries that can last a lifetime. Lastly, NFL players have a hard time adjusting to the regular life after they retire. These are reasons why football is a very dangerous sport and why children and parents should be aware of the risks. The first example why football is dangerous is because it can cause head injuries. “The NFL clearly admits that head blows from football can cause cognitive disabilities”(Storin). This is saying that even the NFL, the company that relies on football to make its money, is willing to admit that football can cause head problems. Also “Boston University’s CTE Center examined brains from 90 former NFL players es and, 86 of them had CTE”(Storin). CTE is a “term used to describe brain degeneration likely caused by repeated head traumas”(Chronic Traumatic). Football is likely to cause CTE because of the repeated blows to the head throughout all the years of playing football. CTE means Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, and its symptoms include suicidal thoughts, memory loss, dementia, confusion, depression and anxiety. Another condition that some football players get is called “pseudobulbar affect (PBA), which can lead to uncontrollable laughter or crying”…
