Football is a sport that represents America. Every year, men and women, boys and girls altogether watch the National Football League either authentically at stadium or live on televisions. According to Scholastic Scope, the NFL rakes in more than 9 billion dollars a year (Shots, 10). However, it seems that America’s most famous sport is in a huge crisis. According to ESPN, the enrollment for Pop Warner, the largest youth football league, has decreased 9.5 percent from 2010 to 2012 (Shots, 11). Most parents say that they don’t let their kids play because of one reason: concussions. Concussions are a severe brain injury caused by a blow to the head or a ultraviolent shaking of the body. Although it was considered very minor in the past, they are a very serious issue in football today. According to the U.S. News and World Report, between 2001 and 2009, football sent about 25,376 kids under the age of 19 to the emergency room for traumatic brain injury each year (Khan). U.S. News and World Report states that one million students play high school football. There are only about 19,500 football scholarships to college (Khan). Only a small percent of college players make it to the NFL. This makes getting going into the NFL more competitive competing, which makes students spend more time on Football. According to Scholastic Scope, College Football players often make the game of Football as their first priority, which they aren’tis not supposed too be. This puts them at a huge disadvantage when they look for jobs. (Shotz, 10). Although NFL players earn a hefty amount of money, it is not something so important that you would let go of your studies. In addition, very small amount of college players make it to the NFL.This makes getting going into the NFL more
