Bennet Omalu, who is pathologist that detects a brain decay called CTE in NFL football player Mike Webster. Mike Webster was a center for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Kansas City Chiefs. Webster suffered from depression which lead to him passing at the age of 50. According to CBS news, “Webster's brain was said to have been through the equivalent of "25,000 car crashes" over his 25 years of playing football in high school, college, and the NFL”. This research on Webster’s brain alone, shows you how dangerous the game of football actually is and how much a toll it takes on your mental being. Throughout the movie, Dr. Omalu fights to get the public attention on the dangers of NFL athletes going through repeated concussions. Generally, a concussion causes damage on the brain which leads to cognitive, physical and mental symptoms. In June of 2013, Hernandez was arrested for the killing of Odin Lloyd. While he was in prison, he dropped by New England Patriots. A couple years later, on April 17, 2017, Aaron Hernandez was found dead in his prison cell. Once his brain was examined at Boston University CTE Center, they came to find out that Hernandez had Stage 3 CTE. The researchers at Boston University said that Aaron Hernandez case of CTE was as severe as an NFL player with CTE that was twice his age. In this stage, it could have had an effect on his decision making and his behavior. So maybe the continuous head trauma that Hernandez suffered from playing football could have been from him developing CTE at a young age. Dr. Stein, Boston University CTE researcher, emphasizes that, “A form of brain decay linked to the kind of repeated head-to-head collisions essential to football – has a different problem with the settlement. It’s that people affected by the mood problems caused by CTE can still experience devastating changes in their lives”. Basically, Dr. Stein is saying that the mood changes resulted from CTE can have a negative effect on the player having a violent behavior. As I suggested earlier, having a violent mood or behavior which is a symptom of CTE, could have affected the decision making and thought process of
