Select, Join and project are the three main capabilities of DBMS. Many applications store and retrieve data. The select data creates a subset of all of the records that are in the file and appears as rows of the Part-Number. The join combines the tables for the user and gives information in individual tables. the PART table is shortened and the supplier table will become one single table. The project create the subset of columns in a table to allow the user to create new tables that will only hold the only information the user wants.
DBMS in the future will be able to store and retrieve images, voice, and full-motion video. DBMS is structured to deliver information in rows and columns and currently is not useful in handling graphics. "Object oriented DBMS stores data that can be automatically retrieved and shared."(21) Object-oriented database management systems (OODMS) are become more popular because they can handle multi-media in Web applications that integrate pieces of information from all kinds of sources.(21)
