How does an organization achieve success both financially for its stockholders as well as for the its stakeholders? P. E. MacAllister is someone who believes that there are three keys to success in business. These three keys are ones Mr. MacAllister has had to monitor for his entire career as both a worker for MacAllister Machinery as well as head of the company. The three keys are having satisfied employees, satisfied customers, and having superior products. To analyze what Mr. MacAllister talked about through an organizational behavior perspective, both job performance and organizational commitment will be examined through an examination of those aspects of the comprehensive organizational behavior model discussed by Colquitt, LePine, and …show more content…
E. MacAllister’s father ran the company in a way that was characteristic of the time. According to Mr. MacAllister, one highlight from this time would be the fact that organizational commitment during his father’s watch was incredibly high and that his father rarely had to fire employees or hire new employees to refill positions. Colquitt, LePine, and Wesson’s (2014) analysis of organizational commitment in chapter three of their book Organizational Behavior may shed some light as to why MacAllister Machinery experienced such high levels of organizational commitment during MacAllister’s father’s time in charge. MacAllister offered great insight into the fact that an organization’s success can be based upon three broad items. Item one, an organization must make sure that their customers are satisfied. A company cannot function without these customers. Item two, employees can play a massive role in the success of an organization and the satisfaction of customers. Like customers, companies would be non-existent without their workforce. The last item on P.E. MacAllister’s list of the three keys to success is making sure that employees are selling a top-notch product, and that customers are receiving this product well. Many companies focus solely on making sure their products are great and customers are satisfied while ignoring those within the organization. The MacAllisters decided to be different and focus on all three of these aspects. What should be no surprise to those reading Colquitt, LePine, and Wesson’s (2014) book, Mr. MacAllister and his company have benefited greatly from this broader focus and have set an example for those in the industry.
