Bloomingdale's began with the extraordinary vision of two brothers, and with a 19th Century fad--the hoop skirt (Press 1). From the first day of business, Lyman and Joseph Bloomingdale set their store on a course to pioneer nearly every major change in the evolution of department stores (1). The same innovative philosophy guides the store's merchandise and marketing to this day (1). From the beginning, the Bloomingdale's brothers sought to present new products first; and when they weren't first with an idea, they simply did it bigger and better than anyone else (1). Along with other services, he has served as Chief Operating Officer of the company and became CEO in 2004 (1). Macy's Inc. is considered one of the biggest retailers in the United States and as of now has not only its productivity, but its reputation at stake as it is one of America's most known retailer, which has made it a household name (1). With this as fact, to place someone like Lundgren in not one, but at the top of the three most important ranks within the organization shows that he not only has the ability to lead, but also consistently works to ensure top quality service, a consistent supply/demand ratio, and a ongoing assessment of quality assurance from consumers (1). Different from the other major retailers in the US such as Walmart, Kohl's and K-Mart, Macy's will never sacrifice quality in order to provide lower prices to consumers (1).
