He also told me to be careful I throw down his juice but there was no juice there, however I went along with him stating that his juice was still there and I wouldn’t throw it down trying my best to make him comfortable as possible. My interpersonal communication with that patient wasn’t successful because of his psychological barrier to effective communication. During that week of communication, I tried to apply Peplau’s Interpersonal Relations Theory where he stated that, “nursing is a therapeutic, interpersonal, and goal oriented process”.
I think I handled my both communication situation quite well. However, when my patient with that alcohol withdrawal syndrome ask to remove his t-shirt which was to tight but I knew he was referring to the restrain. although, I saw the restrain around his chest was tie and uncomfortable, I should have told my preceptor, so maybe she could have gotten them to put on a proper restrain on the patient.
