During this meeting, barriers to the team’s conversation and collaboration tried to arise but fell short due to good leadership and communication skills on behalf of the COO. The providers tried to become defensive and challenge the administrative staff when the crucial conversation began, but the COO was able to bring safety back to the conversation and regain group focus and team collaboration.

In order to build and maintain a productive inter-professional health-care team, continuity, collaboration, and communication must be effective among all team members and its leaders. Effective teams must be able to communicate with other member of the team clearly, accurately, collaboratively and timely. Verbal and non-verbal language also plays into effective team communication and can also become a barrier when not used appropriately. The observed team meeting was an excellent example of effective team communication and collaboration with leadership playing a huge role in the group dynamic and in keeping conversations sage and productive.
