School safety has become a main focus in the education system over the past several years. It seems that schools are becoming the target of violent crimes. Every year teachers sit through in services training them with new ideas that are being implemented to keep students safe. The schools that are exposed to the community need a plan which will keep unwanted intruders out. Most schools have surveillance cameras located in specific locations that can monitor the traffic of the entrances. I believe this is not enough to ensure safety. The SRO should be used to protect the students from outside intruders and of course any dangerous situation in the school itself. Besides an officer being located at each school some may say all teachers need to be armed. I do not believe a teacher should have access to a gun in the classroom. This gives me a little anxiety just thinking of this. I do not feel confident enough that I nor anyone else is fully trained to use that gun appropriately. I do believe a teacher does need some form of protection and an alternative to a gun could be a Taser. The Taser will not kill anyone but it would allow you to get the situation under control and buy some time until help
