Importance Of Community Service In The Community

Throughout my time in high school and seeing all of the graduation requirements that come and go not once has community service come up. I personally think it is a great idea. Helps us high school students give back to the community. How many people come to sporting events, support clubs, and donate their time and resources to the high school out of the kindness of their hearts? A lot, especially in a small community like ours. The other thing is I think that the term community service is always followed by the question, “what did you get in trouble for?” which is very sad. So many people think that the only reason high school kids, most of the time, are doing this service because they have so many hours to fill. There are so many things that this community is in need of that it wouldn’t be hard to find any number of projects to do. Donating our time. There are so many amazing organizations in our area that help countless people. Big Brothers and Big Sisters, for example, pairs high school and college kids with elementary and middle school kids of all ages. You go eat lunch with these kids once a week and help them with homework or just give them someone to talk to. These kids come from all sorts of bad or depressing home lives. These kids may not be able to get the love they really need or have anyone to talk to. I guess on a personal level, I “adopted” one of these such kids. I go eat lunch with this kid and just talk about school, life, and help them understand how important school is. This child’s mom didn’t go to college or attend high school that well. She wants her child to be better of than she is. She is trying to look out for her children by getting outside help from good high school kids.
