Through my participation in the Fundraising and Cancer Education Club at Bartlett High School, I shaved my head to raise money for cancer research. Personally I raised almost a thousand dollars and as an organization we raised several thousand more. Knowing that through my actions I helped give hope to people around the world was one of the most satisfying feelings I have ever experienced. Since then I have done many hours of community service and even joined the Youth United Way of Elgin, which is dedicated to assisting under-privileged children in the Elgin area. Community service is very important to me and I believe that helping others is vital to having a thriving, supportive community. As a member of the National Honor Society, I hope to extend my own passion for helping others to the entire community. The National Honors Society defines what it means to serve the student body as well as the community. As a student athlete in the Sutton school system leadership, service, character and scholarship have impacted my very way of life. Having a persistent attitude is what makes a student shine and as a prospective candidate for NHS I will incorporate this quality into each of the four pillars improving the society as a whole.
