People who are legal immigrants receive opportunities that an illegal immigrant would not. In the article “Beyond Economics: Broadening Perspectives on Immigration to Canada,” Catherine Costigan, Sabine Lehr, and Sheena Miao, writers who used studies and the data in their paper, state, “The largest number of individuals in this case reported that their children’s educational opportunities were the most important reason for coming to Canada” (Costigan 32). They don't realize there is a way to decrease separation of families. If the illegal immigrants go through the immigration process, separation would not be a problem. According to Adam Omar Hosein, the author of “Immigration: The Argument for Legalization,” “unauthorized migrants should be granted the right to stay because they have relationships with other people in the community” (Hosein 610). The essence of Adam Omar Hosein’s argument is that illegal immigrants should have the right to stay because they have friends or family in the community. However, an illegal immigrant is breaking the law and should be punished for the crime. If that punishment is deportation, the person must come to terms that they must leave the country and the people they have become close with. This is similar to what Lorella Praeli, a activist for the DREAMer organization, states in the documentary Frontline: Immigration Battle, when she says, “We’re fighting because we want our families to be together. We don't want to be afraid they might be taken from us” (Frontline: Immigration Battle). In making this comment, Lorella Praeli argues that people fight for illegal immigrants to be legalized in order for their families to stay together. Also, many illegal immigrants are afraid that their friends and family members will be taken away from them. Adam Omar
