The Wolverines needed a field goal to win the game.
“Axe I can’t watch!” I wanted to cover my eyes but I couldn’t.
The entire stadium was on their feet.
The ball was snapped, the placeholder caught it, and from there everything went into slow motion. He placed the ball on the ground, spun the laces outward, the kicker ran up to the ball and kicked it. The offensive line blocked the defense; the ball soared through the air, end of end. Goosebumps covered my skin, it looked like it was too wide. I covered my mouth and gasped. The stadium was silent. The ball hit the upright, and with a loud thud, spun and went between the uprights.
The crowd screamed and cheered so loud I swear the concrete below us shook.
I started crying, again, “Damnit!”

She rushed over to the kitchen, a few minutes later she came back with ice inside of a baggie, wrapped in a tea towel, “Here, let me help.” She lifted my shirt, “Oh Ace…your all red and starting to bruise.” She gently placed the icepack against my ribs, “Are you sure you’re okay?”
I smiled, “Gram, I’m fine I promise.”
“Okay, where else do you need ice?”
“My entire body, I’ll fill her tub up later and dump some ice in it. I’ll be as good as new in a couple of days.”
Julia asked if they were going to stay the night, they declined and said they wanted to get home so they could tell all their friends about the game and Gram could show them the pictures she’d taken.
Axe came back into the apartment, “I’m starving, I’ll pay for delivery. What does everyone want?”
Gram and Gramps declined, “We are going to head home, you kids pig out and enjoy spending time together.”

“Thank you,” I smiled. Gramp patted the back of my hand with his.
Gram kissed my forehead, “Promise me you’ll call in a couple days and let me know you’re okay?”

Julia sat on the floor next to the coffee table, and fed me bites of the Chinese food she had ordered. “I can get use to this.” I told her.
She scooped some up and took a bite, swallowed, “Remember that when I’m exhausted from these twins keeping me up all hours of the night.”
I smiled, “I can’t wait.”
“God, you two are nauseating.” Axe said.
I looked at him and grinned, “Surly you’ve got a few side chicks.”
He gave Julia a look, she curled her lips in trying not to laugh, “I do.” Axe replied.
“Uh huh…spill the details, do you have somebody knocked up?”
He laughed, “Hell no!”
I raised an eyebrow, “Then what was that look, why did she try not to laugh?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
I tugged Julia’s ponytail, “What was so funny?”
She chuckled and shook her head, I let her silky hair slid through my fingers, “I don’t think I can tell you without laughing. I know that you’re reaction is going to be dramatic and hilarious.”
