I still remember the first day he arrived at the hospital. He wanted to meet every single patient, he didn’t care if you were an acute or a chronic. I always knew he was a man with a plan, because one of the first things he said to us was that “[he] came to this establishment to bring [us] birds fun an’ entertainment” (Kesey 17). Because of Nurse Ratched’s strict rules, and cruel punishments the hospital was very dull and depressing, but his arrival changed everything. His presence made things more fun, and exciting “the acutes [were] grinning, not so uneasy anymore, and glad that something out of the ordinary’s going on” (Kesey 23), he didn’t need to do anything crazy, even the way he smiled or talked made would suddenly change the mood.…

Some think that their kinship is what really matters. Many characters in the story Beowulf by Seamus Heaney emphasize qualities of being “great” in their time of being: the importance of material wealth, loyalty, and kinship. Material wealth is obviously not the most important thing in life to us, but in the time of the Anglo-saxons material wealth was so emphasized because it was a way of showing economic status and how happily one was living at the time.…

~Sticking to the Script~ I. Felicitous I let out a long sigh as I walked along the beach’s crowded boardwalk, alone. Facing your fears or turning your weaknesses into a strength is something not very many people do. In Beowulf: A New Telling by Robert Nye that is something the hero, Beowulf, does.
