Human Services Reflection Essay

One the most significant things that I learned in introduction to human services this semester was that everyone experiences situations differently, what might be something unimportant and minor to you might be a trigger for someone else. You should always be mindful of others, I think us as human beings we tend to be a bit selfish and like to think that the world revolves around us. Which, is ridiculous because the world has 7.3 billion people and counting, and what makes me more significant than all those other people? Sometimes I’ll go out to the store in a hurry and I’ll get a line with a cashier that is being extremely slow, and I get upset and start thinking of some nasty things about the cashier, without ever taking into consideration what that person might be going through. I know that I am not the only person guilty of doing something like that. This reminded me of the, this is Water Commencement Speech by David Foster Wallace video, that’s on YouTube that my introduction to psychology professor showed us, and at the time it didn’t really pay much …show more content…
I took this class because I was considering becoming a social work major or human services major instead of psychology hoping to find a way that I can help people but, I realized that it takes a lot more than just wanting to help to be in this field. There isn’t one specific reason on why I’m not suited for the HS profession I just know that psychology is what is most suitable for me. I feel that is the major where I can find my flow, Where I can stay interested in my job but not feel overwhelmed by it. Even though, the human services field isn’t for me I am glad I took the class and I was able to see what the field is like and realize that it is out of my scope. I have a new level of admiration for the people who are in the field, because honestly not everyone can do the work they are able to

African American Communities Social Service Delivery programs in their inception were framed according to the fundamental values of mainstream groups in society. The plans were to implement programs that support those who were experiencing socioeconomic hardships. At the time these plans did not include African American communities. By law, African Americans were not entitled to the same provisions that other races, ethnicities, and cultures received, which lead resilient African Americans, such as Janie Porter Barrett, to develop support systems geared more towards the advancement of African American communities. There have been many movements to reform society’s prejudicial ideology of who is deserving of available resources and who…

After observing the amount of litter, trash, and dead trees across my local park during my service-learning project, my insight about pollution and the cutting down of trees increased and lead me to have more empathy about the issue I was researching. For my service-learning project I participated in “Clark Park Cleanup”, the purpose of which was to assist in cleaning up Clark Park, planting trees, and promoting the importance of trees and clean parks for our environment. While completing this project I learned many things, some of which being the importance trees have on our environment, and how having clean parks are beneficial for our nation. It helped me understand the issue I was researching more deeply and helped me connect with the issue. Three words that best describe my service-learning experience would be enlightening, appreciative, inspirational.…
