Many years ago I attended the Borough of Manhattan Community College and the concentration was accounting. I thought that I would enjoy accounting because I felt challenged at ensuring the bottom line would have made a profit or balanced out at the end of the quarter. During my time at BMCC I begin working with people and assisting them with their daily needs and found that I enjoyed helping others, seeing them overcome barriers felt rewarding to me. I believe that all of these courses will help me in developing the extra skills and move me further along in my career. I will be able to work with individuals that are dealing with Substance abuse issues, homelessness, or other challenges that may be hindering them from living a more productive life in their community.
Ultimately, I would like to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services. Since I have worked in the human service field for over six years I have been faced with many challenges, but with more teaching and enhancing of hands on skills my desire to work with others has grown stronger. I have hopes to use the degree to secure positions such as a Project Director were I can more than use my skills, but also the knowledge that has been obtained and run a successful program in helping people in the communities. I also want to prove to myself and my family that it is never too late to go back and finish your education after taking years off. I have not only been inspired by the clients that I have worked with, but by seeing in the media how people of the older generation are going back to school and obtaining their degrees. I mentioned how I deal with challenges on a day to day basis at work and I am able to assist in solving these challenges, I will fill proud of myself when I have completed the challenge I set for myself to further my
