The social issues and population I would like to work with are immigrants with no employment. The reason why I want to work with immigrants with no employment is because many immigrants cannot find work so they are unemployed or forced to work hard labor which is mostly dangerous. I want to help them get work at the same time in decent places that will also treat them with respect. My interests lie along in a micro, macro and mezzo continuum is that I would work one on one with all my clients to get know their skill sets and background education. I will look for work that they will be able to use some of the skills from their past careers and build on their education. I want to do this because I believe many of their skills they have learned back home are being wasted when they come to Canada and are not placed or able to work with these skill sets. So by allowing them to use it at their jobs would be fulfilling to them and their employers as well would benefit there new community and enrich the Canadian

This consists of working alongside Child Protective service social workers and foster children and encouraging partnerships with other agencies that support children. Internship and my work experiences has taught me about the values of teamwork and good organization, and given me an overall higher responsibility within my professional career. One of the greatest things that Child Protective services has done is led to me coming into contact with numerous people in the Human social service career and improved my overall understanding of social work. Previous jobs that I have had such as working with Merced County at Worknet have improved important skills that make me suitable for this position; in particular, my work as a youth counselor required perseverance, the use of negotiation during team meetings and the ability to work under pressure in case management, all assets I can put to use at any social service profession for example, working towards group presentations and beyond. When I started working as a CAN, as well as volunteering in the health care field, I understood that the work involved included helping residents in activities of daily living. What I found out after I started working was how much of an impact the job makes on people. When I was volunteering to help a woman go grocery shopping I did not think much of it. However, when I came into her home and started putting her groceries away she started tearing up. I found out that she and her husband used to always go grocery shopping together and would later play a game that involved putting the groceries away.…

    b. Personally, I think the way social workers providing services should depend on the types of clients we are working with. Working with children is different with working with elderly. Even though both groups demand special care, elderly do not like to be treated as children. Before I started my field placemen at the ELC, I believe that in order to work with children, one should be patient and really love kids. The working experience proved my views were correct.…

Early upon entering the College of Social Work I became interested in the homeless population. In my junior year, I took the time to volunteer with the Renaissance Community Center, an organization that provides various services to Homeless individuals in Tallahassee. Volunteering here taught me about people and the effects of interpersonal communication, how the availability of services can aid people during personal crisis, and the limitations of resources and access on a vulnerable population such as the homeless. This experience is valuable to me as it increased my interest in the population and my awareness of how it intersects with values and the purpose of social work.…

This class has been a great experience for me and the most important thing that I learned in class came from the young adulthood, middle adulthood, and late adulthood interviews. Linking the interviews with the person I interviewed with the theories related to that age had help me become aware of how I will use these theories in practicing social work in all areas. Now that I am aware of the theories I seek out the person I am working with the past history of their life from childhood to now. Each human experience is different and important to know when working with an individual. For example, in the middle adulthood interview, Shawn had a good relationship with his children that were very important to him.…

One the most significant things that I learned in introduction to human services this semester was that everyone experiences situations differently, what might be something unimportant and minor to you might be a trigger for someone else. You should always be mindful of others, I think us as human beings we tend to be a bit selfish and like to think that the world revolves around us. Which, is ridiculous because the world has 7.3 billion people and counting, and what makes me more significant than all those other people? Sometimes I’ll go out to the store in a hurry and I’ll get a line with a cashier that is being extremely slow, and I get upset and start thinking of some nasty things about the cashier, without ever taking into consideration what that person might be going through.…
