The purpose of this essay is to analyse how individual differences in personality affect team dynamics. This essay shall focus on the Five Factor Model of Personality, and will look at the involved factors in depth. It will through research try and provide an explanation as to how the different personalities are able to get along or how they hinder the team environment.
For the purpose of this essay, the main personality traits that will be focussed on are extraverts versus introverts. They are found in all situations and are in the opinion of the author, a very diverse group of people, ranging from full extraverts / introverts to people that have a little of each within them.
The work that needs to be done to ensure that team dynamics are not affected over a long period of time and how a manager needs to manage these different personality traits.
What is the Five Factor Model of Personality, according to McShane & Von Glinow (2013) it is the most widely respected clustering of personality traits. From previous research over several decades, more than 17,000 personality traits were condensed into just five models. Those being, Conscientiousness, Agreeableness, Neuroticism, Openness and Extraversion.
